How to Know if Your Foundation Is Damaged

A damaged foundation means that your home or building isn’t being supported evenly from below. Parts of the building are under more strain than others, which pulls and twists on the building materials in ways they are not made to withstand.

This type of stress commonly results in visible cracks near these areas:

  • Cracks: You may notice cracks around windows, doorways, walls, ceilings, and especially where two pieces of material meet each other, such as where your wall meets your ceiling.
  • Settling Concrete: You may notice a sunken stoop or porch, which could indicate that the soil under your property is settling.
  • Flaky Concrete: Concrete thatis under improper stress will begin to flake and chip away.
  • Stuck Windows: Window frames are sensitive to warping and can easily become stuck.

We use several methods of repair, each of which has been thoroughly tested and proven in Canton’s unique topsoil.

  • Steel Pier (Lifetime Warranty) A very popular and long-lasting method of repair that involves driving steel shafts deep into the earth with a hydraulic press. Ideally, the piers reach bedrock, which means depths of more than 75 feet. This provides the support needed for permanent repairs.
  • Steel Transition Pier (Lifetime Warranty) A good choice is when steel and concrete are both desirable for the conditions of your foundation and the soil beneath your home. Capable of reaching bedrock depth and providing permanent support.
  • Drilled Pier (10-Year Warranty) This is another great option for lightweight buildings. For this kind of repair, we use an auger drill to create a hole to the desired depth (as deep as we can go for the best stability). Then we add a mixture of cement and reinforcement which becomes the pier.
  • Helical Pier (Lifetime Warranty) This is a helix-shaped steel shaft that is designed to be twisted into the earth like a screw. This unique repair method is great for sandy, unstable soils as well as lightweight structures that couldn’t withstand the vibrations caused by heavier equipment.

Freaking AMAZING! First of all, no one wants to jack up their home. But if you have to, these are the guys. Starting with James the sales guy… is an actual geologist. The guys that do the actual work get right down to business. The holes they dig are ridiculously deep and their entire bodies are inside of them. It’s crazy to watch. Augustine the supervisor came each day to make sure everything was going good and to wrap the job up. There was dirt and mud and holes in my concrete; a real mess. They left the site as good as the day before they started. Again amazing! In my over 60 years on this planet, I’ve worked with a lot of contractors and these guys are truly incredible to deal with, absolutely professional and each one of the crew was personable.
