The Right Drainage System

One thing that you’re going to need is the right drainage system. You do not want pools of water collecting and gathering anywhere around your home. Whether or not they have come from you is irrelevant, you need to get them away from your foundation or structure before it causes any issues. It could be that this excess water is roof water, or it could have come from a tree, or it could have simply come from the soil, but it’s got to go no matter what.

That’s why you’ve got to ensure that you’ve got the right drainage system. There are plenty out there for you to choose from, and it becomes about finding the one that does the best job. Obviously you need a system that carries the water away without too much hassle, and something that is easy to maintain.

When you own a house, it is important that you do everything in your power to ensure that the foundation is okay and in good condition. You don’t have to check it every single day so there is no need to annoy your neighbor! Instead, we’re going to talk about some of the things that you should do to ensure that the foundation of the house is solid. If you want to know more about what these things are specifically related to water damage, then keep reading down below.

A Perfect Slope

It’s an entirely new thing to make sure that you have a slop near your home to encourage drainage. The final grade should be sloped away from the foundation whether you are putting a patio in, or you’re simply trying to find a way to stop water from gathering outside the home. Make sure that this has been measured to allow for the maximum amount of drainage.

You must have a minimum of a five degree slope to prevent water from pooling. Damage to your foundation could be detrimental and costly, but with the right slope, this is far less likely to occur.

Irrigation Systems

Finally, you can look at having an irrigation system. Make sure that if you do have one of these it sprays away from the foundation. We know that your foundation needs watering in order to be in the best possible condition and reduce the risk of damage to the property, so why not get an irrigation system? You can set this to spray the foundation on a cycle so that it always has the right amount of moisture and is never getting too big or too small.

Speak to a specialist before you purchase an irrigation system though. A professional opinion means that you can’t possibly go wrong, and with the foundation of your house, you don’t want this to be a risk!

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the ways that you can create a better foundation for your home. Water management is crucial, and if you’ve not been doing this up to now, it’s time.
